Healthy skin, healthy body: the importance of dermatological prevention

On 26 June, SIDeMaST (the Italian Society of Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases) established National Dermatological Prevention Day, an initiative aimed at raising awareness amongst the public and healthcare professionals of the importance of prevention, early detection of skin conditions and prompt access to a specialist.

Early diagnosis is, in fact, one of the most effective tools for improving the management of dermatological conditions and patient outcomes.

This principle is particularly relevant in autoimmune bullous diseases – rare but potentially serious conditions – in which the prompt recognition of clinical signs and diagnostic confirmation through specific tests enable the most appropriate treatment to be initiated rapidly.

In this context, immunological diagnostics provide essential support for dermatologists. Serological tests to detect specific autoantibodies, carried out using validated methods with high sensitivity and specificity, contribute to the diagnosis, classification and monitoring of conditions such as pemphigus vulgaris, pemphigus foliaceus and bullous pemphigoid, in conjunction with clinical and histopathological assessment.

Our laboratory supports clinicians with specialist analyses and tests dedicated to the diagnosis of dermatological autoimmune diseases, ensuring rapid and accurate diagnoses and helping to improve clinical outcomes.
